An artist with a passion for community
Costume designer, 16 years at the Norwegian Opera. Creative workshops and talks for companies, artistic collaborations and performances.
Maria is a costume designer based in Oslo, with over 16 years of experience from the Norwegian Opera, working closely with stage art and expression. Her work explores the intersection of body, identity, and performance, using costume and visual storytelling to create bold, emotionally charged experiences.
She is a provocative and boundary-challenging artist, addressing stigma, silence culture, and marginalisation around sexuality, gender, orientation, mental health, and self-expression. Reuse of textiles runs through the work: several costumes are made from thrift-store finds, sports netting or plastic given a new life.
In the workshops and talks, craft and community are at the centre. Participants make something with their hands, and the conversation about self-image and inclusion gets a safe space.
Through my work, I aim to open spaces for visibility, dialogue, and deeper human connection. I believe artistic expression has the power to disrupt, liberate, and transform both the individual and the collective.
