Kalandra

Maria Munter created stage costumes for Kalandra, the Norwegian folk metal band, for two tours across Norway and Europe. The work required a delicate balance: respecting each band member's individual style and identity while maintaining a coherent visual narrative for the group as a whole.

Each costume is rooted in meticulous research into Norwegian folklore and Norse mythology. From harsh mountain landscapes to unsettling tales of ancient gods, Maria weaves these elements into the stage wear, helping the band bring their music to life visually as well as sonically.

The costumes must function on stage, remain comfortable for the musicians during intense performances, and appear visually striking from the audience. It is precisely this threefold challenge, where craftsmanship, practicality and artistic vision converge, that Maria thrives on.
